Tottenham will reportedly compete with Arsenal for in-form Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke after cooling interest in Evan Ferguson.
According to a report by The Sun, Dominic Solanke is the subejct of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The North London giants are in the market for a striker after choosing not to replace Harry Kane in the summer transfer window. The Bournemouth attacker, also a target for Arsenal, has thus emerged as a target. Meanwhile, they have cooled interest in Evan Ferguson.
Dominic Solanke and His Renaissance
Dominic Solanke is a late bloomer after struggling to take the Premier League by storm in his stint with Liverpool. Pundits rated the Englishman highly during his time at Chelsea but could not deliver the goods at Anfield. So, it was hardly surprising when Liverpool sold him to Bournemouth for £24 million in January 2019.
The 26-year-old did not hit the ground running at the Vitality Stadium but has come into his own since the Cherries dropped to the EFL Championship. Solanke has been a talismanic figure for Bournemouth since returning to the Premier League last year. And he has taken his game to the next level in the 2023/24 season.
The former Liverpool striker has amassed 12 goals and one assist in 20 appearances across all competitions. Solanke was recently in the spotlight after scoring a match-winning hat-trick in the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham.
Arsenal vs Tottenham for Solanke
Arsenal will enter the market for a striker next year, with Gabriel Jesus not being prolific. The Brazilian international is a pivotal figure for the North London club. But the Gunners also need regular goals from their attackers, bringing Dominic Solanke into the picture. However, Arsenal will face stiff competition for the Englishman’s signature.
Tottenham’s interest in the 26-year-old is hardly surprising. While Richarlison has improved in the last few weeks, Ange Postecoglou does not have a natural striker in his squad apart from Alejo Veliz. With Veliz being too young to become the first-choice striker for Tottenham, they can do with a new centre-forward. While Evan Ferguson was a target, they have cooled interest in him.
Dominic Solanke has thus emerged as a viable target for Tottenham. But a January move might not be on the cards, with Bournemouth ready to block offers for him. So, Tottenham and Arsenal might have to wait until next summer to launch the offensive for the in-form striker.
