Raphael Varane is ready to quit Manchester United and engineer a return to Real Madrid

According to AS (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United superstar Raphael Varane is ready to call time on his stint at Old Trafford and return to Real Madrid.

The French centre-back moved to the Red Devils in 2021 and was part of the squad that won the Carabao Cup earlier this year. However, that remains his lone high in a Red Devils jersey and the stint at the Theatre of Dreams has been largely underwhelming.

While Varane has struggled with injuries, his latest grouse in Red comes against manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman has dropped Varane down the pecking order and the player has of late struggled to break into the playing XI.

In fact, Varane has started just one of the last 11 Premier League games and was not even in the squad earlier today for the trip to West Ham United. While he might be underappreciated at Old Trafford, there are still those at the Santiago Bernabeu who rate him.

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen to reunite with the 30-year-old and a move could even be considered come January. With David Alaba out with an ACL injury and Eder Militao also sidelined, Real could do with a player of Varane’s experience. Not only is he a world-class centre back but he is also familiar with life at Real and the expectations that come with donning the famous white jersey.

Varane is very keen to return to Real and is also willing to lower his wages to force through a move. While Bayern Munich are also interested, Real certainly have the edge thanks to their affiliation with the player and also good relations with United.

The French international certainly has a few years left in him at the top and as things stand, he is unlikely to enjoy much success at Manchester United. A return to Real Madrid could certainly help him return to the top, playing regularly and also winning trophies.

Signed for €40 million, Varane has struggled to meet expectations. A parting of the ways would be the best bet for all parties.
