Napoli are keen on signing Giovani Lo Celso in January as a potential replacement for Eljif Elmas, but any move will depend on Tottenham’s stance.

According to Fichajes, Napoli have placed Giovani Lo Celso on their list of potential January signings. The Serie A champions view the €30 million-rated Tottenham playmaker as a potential replacement for Eljif Elmas, who has signed for RB Leipzig.

Eljif Elmas Leaving Napoli: Giovani Lo Celso To Replace Him?

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis recently confirmed speculation surrounding Eljif Elmas’s future move to RB Leipzig. The loss of the midfielder could put the Serie A champions into action ahead of the January transfer window to find a suitable replacement.

De Laurentiis would like to make a few signings to stabilise their season after a stellar start under the latest managerial installation Walter Mazzarri. However, getting the right player options for transfers in January has always proven difficult, and they are now about to embark on another tricky journey to sign a specific target.

Napoli have added Giovani Lo Celso to their list of potential candidates to replace Elmas. The Argentine has a contract in north London until 2025, which could lead to the Partenopei testing with an offer. Whether the Tottenham playmaker, who might cost around €30 million, wants a move away from the club remains the question.

Juventus are also interested, while Barcelona have long held their admiration for the Argentine, failing to sign him during the summer. Meanwhile, Lo Celso appeared to have revived his time at Spurs after a bright period spanning over three games, where he scored two goals in three starts.

Ange Postecoglou certainly rates Lo Celso rather highly, and he may have had a hand in blocking a move in the summer. The Argentine did repay that faith with some crucial goals in the process. Lo Celso has not started or played the last two games because of a suspected injury.

Hence there are chances of Tottenham not allowing him a move in January, considering they do not expect clubs to pay anywhere close to the €30 million valuation. If Napoli or any other suitor comes up with a decent offer and keeps in mind what Lo Celso thinks about his future at Spurs, things could move along.
