Aston Villa, Fulham, West Ham United vying for Artem Dovbyk

Premier League trio Aston Villa, Fulham, and West Ham United are vying for the services of Girona star Artem Dovbyk.

According to Fichajes, the Premier League trio of Aston Villa, Fulham and West Ham United are all keeping tabs on Girona star Artem Dovbyk as we head into the 2024 January transfer window.

Artem Dovbyk: The Story So Far

The 26-year-old spent the majority of his career in the Danish, Moldovan and Ukrainian leagues before earning a move to Girona in 2023. It has proven to be an inspiring acquisition by the Catalan side as Dovbyk has taken to La Liga like a fish to water.

The Blanquivermells are joint top of La Liga, trailing Real Madrid by only goal difference. Girona have won 14 of their 18 games in the league so far this season, largely influenced by Dovbyk’s return of 11 goals and five assists in 17 games.

Premier League Calling?

This prolific run and seamless integration into a top five European League has attracted attention from Aston Villa, Fulham and West Ham. Unai Emery’s men are in the race for the Premier League title but have only Ollie Watkins to lead the line as a consistent goalscorer.

The Villans are eyeing attacking reinforcements this January and also have Kelechi Iheanacho and Timo Werner on their radar. Dovbyk’s contract at Girona runs until 2028, and it remains to be seen if the Catalan outfit will be willing to do business mid-season.

Fulham, too, need a striker given that Raul Jimenez has failed to fill the void left by Aleksandar Mitrovic adequately. The Cottagers play an expansive brand of football and craft several goalscoring opportunities but sorely lack a player who can find the net consistently. Dovbyk certainly has the skill set to provide Marco Silva with a solution.

West Ham, meanwhile, need a long-term replacement for Michail Antonio. Jarrod Bowen shoulders the goalscoring burden at the London Stadium, while the Gianluca Scamacca project turned out to be a dud. Bristling with pace and power, Dovbyk is an ideal suit for David Moyes’s system.

With January close, a transfer race would be ideal for Girona should they be willing to cash in on the Ukrainian star. But with a special season on the books, it remains to be seen if they will prefer to part ways at the end of the season rather than in the middle of it.
