Newcastle United could wipe out competition in the chase for Joshua Zirkzee as they could pay €50 million for the Bologna striker.
According to Milan Web, Newcastle United could pay €50 million to sign Joshua Zirkzee after the striker’s impressive season with Bologna. The Italian side are aware of the growing interest in the Dutch centre-forward and could entertain offers next summer.
Joshua Zirkzee made a big impression early on while at Bayern Munich, but since then, his career somewhat faded away. A few loans to Parma and Anderlecht did work out for his development, but the Bavarians eventually chose to sell him for a decent fee amounting to €8.5 million.
Bologna decided to invest in the 22-year-old forward back in the summer of 2022, but Zirkzee has come to the fore this season. Seven goals and two assists from 16 Serie A games have helped the Dutch forward gain the attention of some big clubs.
An opportunity could come knocking on his doors soon enough if he continues to maintain this form. Milan are one of the sides keen, with the Rossoneri eager to revamp their strike options. There are links to Serhou Guirassy, but the Stuttgart forward could choose a Premier League club with a lucrative offer.
Milan are also looking at other options, and now they have stumbled upon Zirkzee. However, they face intense competition from suitors, with Newcastle United emerging in the race. As per the report, the Magpies could wipe out competition for the 22-year-old Serie A striker with a €50 million offer.
The Magpies are keen on adding a young striker and have seen links to Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich. If they can pay €50 million for Zirkzee, then there are chances others will bow out. Incidentally, Bayern are also keen on re-signing the 22-year-old Serie A striker and have many favourable clauses in his contract that could aid their chase.
Bayern have a €20 million buy-back clause, and if Bologna sells him to another side, then the Bavarians will get 50% of the sale amount owing to a sell-on clause. Either way, they can profit from Zirkzee’s transfer. Hence, an offer worth €50 million from the Magpies might appeal to Bologna, who will then consider a sale.
Any transfer is unlikely to happen in January, with the forward pencilled in to move out next summer. By then, more clubs might join in the hunt, but things will only matter if anyone can match Newcastle’s spending power.
