PSG set to beat Liverpool to Lucas Beraldo signature

Liverpool have been linked with a move for 20-year-old Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo, also a target for Paris Saint-Germain.

A report from 90min has claimed that Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are set to win the race to sign Lucas Beraldo. The Brazilian centre-back has also been a target for Liverpool. But Sao Paulo will sell him to Les Parisiens in January.

The 20-year-old defender is highly rated around Europe, and he has a bright future ahead of him. He could develop into a top-class central defender in the near future, and Liverpool will certainly regret missing out on him. PSG are set to sign him in a £20 million deal.

Liverpool to Miss Out on Lucas Beraldo

Beraldo would have been the quality long-term replacement for Joel Matip, who could leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool move on to other targets now.

The Merseyside club will need to bring in a quality central defender as a top priority. Ibrahima Konate, Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are the only reliable defenders at the club. Gomez and Konate have a worrying fitness record. So, Liverpool must look to add more depth to the defensive unit.

The Premier League giants have been linked with several players in recent weeks, and it remains to be seen who they end up signing. Players like Piero Hincapie and Goncalo Inacio are reportedly on their radar as well. As for Beraldo, he will look to continue his development with regular game time.

A move to PSG will certainly be an attractive option for him. They are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and they have the financial resources to offer him a lucrative contract. It could be a life-changing transfer for the young defender, and it remains to be seen whether he can fulfil his world-class potential with regular game time in French football.

Moving to Liverpool would have been an interesting opportunity for the player as well. Jurgen Klopp has done well to nurture talented young players throughout his career, and he could have played a big role in his development as well. Beraldo is an elite talent with immense potential. The reported £20 million acquisition could look like a major bargain in the coming seasons when he fulfils his potential.
