Liverpool had a scout present during Sporting CP’s recent Europa League game to watch Goncalo Inacio in action.

A Liverpool scout was in attendance during Sporting CP’s recent Europa League game against Sturm Graz to watch Goncalo Inacio, as per Record via Sport Witness. The Merseysiders are keen on bringing in a new defender in January after the injury to Joel Matip, as the 22-year-old Arsenal target also has plenty of other suitors.

Goncalo Inacio could find himself in the thick of a transfer battle ahead of the January window. Portuguese clubs have often opened doors for interested clubs to pluck their best talents, and the 22-year-old defender is right among those considered massive in that league.

Liverpool, in particular, gets a prominent mention in the report as they continue to hold an interest in Inacio. Jurgen Klopp had long wanted a left-footed centre-back, something his team lacked compared to their rivals. Others like Manchester City and Arsenal have plenty of options of that kind, with the Reds likely to resolve the issue in January.

Liverpool could spring into action to sign a new centre-back in January following the season-ending injury to Joel Matip. The unfortunate circumstances could also let Klopp decide on a firm target, which could well be a left-footed centre-back this time.

They might have signed one in the summer, but Klopp was left to rebuild his midfield following a raft of sudden departures. With the January window fast approaching and Liverpool in the thick of a title challenge, bringing in a defender on priority would make plenty of sense.

Inacio has long featured on their list, but Sporting CP are holding out for a high price close to his huge release clause. Other teams like Newcastle United and Manchester United are also keen. Inacio also remains eager to join the Premier League amid a host of clubs tracking his progress.

Liverpool reportedly sent a scout to watch the 22-year-old in action during Sporting CP’s recent Europa League clash against Sturm Graz. The observer would have noticed plenty, including Inacio’s brace in that clash.

Arsenal are also keen on the defender, as per recent reports, but Mikel Arteta also has eyes for Ousmane Diomande, a teammate of Inacio’s. The Gunners are not overly keen on a left-footed option. Still, things are opening up within their squad, as Jakub Kiwior could depart and return to Italy amid AC Milan’s interest.

Liverpool may have the upper hand for their apparent need for a left-footed centre-back. Arsenal and others could also put in exciting proposals, as a thick race could erupt in January to sign the 22-year-old from Sporting CP.
