Manchester United are considering a ‘more ruthless’ approach towards Jadon Sancho as they can potentially terminate his contract.
According to Sky Sports via The Mirror, Manchester United have considered the idea of terminating Jadon Sancho’s contract. The 23-year-old winger carries a massive investment from the club, which paid £73 million to sign him, but things have not gone to plan, especially after the feud with Erik Ten Hag.
Jadon Sancho remains one of Manchester United’s highest-paid players, with a salary well over £250,000-a-week. The 23-year-old winger remains banished from first-team duties following a rift with manager Erik ten Hag back in August.
Neither side has come forward to resolve the situation, with the club taking no sides. Ten Hag had demanded an apology from Sancho following the 23-year-old’s social media post calling out the manager for his decision to keep him out of the squad ahead of the game against Arsenal.
Sancho has refused to apologise for his action, which has seen him banished from all first-team activities. A departure in the January window appears like the only solution for the winger, who has attracted plenty of attention elsewhere.
A recent report claimed Manchester United could consider a part-exchange deal with Barcelona involving Sancho and Raphinha, but the Catalans remain iunnterested in such a prospect. Similarly, there are doubts whether Juventus or former side Borussia Dortmund will make a move owing to the 23-year-old’s massive salary and the cost of acquiring him, with the 23-year-old remains keen to stay in Europe.
Manchester United had hoped to get £50 million in exchange for selling Sancho, which could have also come as a loan obligation clause. However, there are fewer chances of that happening, as clubs will not pay a considerable sum.
In what’s described as the worst-case scenario, Manchester United are reportedly considering a ‘more ruthless’ approach and could even terminate the 23-year-old’s contract. The idea is not new in the English circle, with Arsenal most recently adopting it to cancel Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe’s deal.
In those cases, the Gunners barely had any suitor willing to pay and take those forwards. Manchester United could still attract plenty of suitors for Sancho and might still recoup a part of the £73 million they invested in the 23-year-old winger.
Hence, the idea of termination appears unlikely in Sancho’s case, although they might end up losing him not on their terms. Sancho could potentially leave on a loan deal, giving Manchester United a temporary respite from his high wages.
