West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing 23-year-old Nigerian striker Akor Adams from Ligue 1 club Montpellier.

A report from The Sun has claimed that West Ham United are keen on signing Akor Adams from Ligue 1 club Montpellier. The Hammers are in the market for a striker heading into the January transfer window.

Akor Adams: The Solution To West Ham United’s Woes?

The Nigerian striker has scored 24 goals across all competitions this season for Montpellier and Lillestrom before that. He has seven goals in 15 appearances since joining the Ligue 1 club. There is no doubt that he could be a quality goalscorer for West Ham, and the Hammers are hoping to get a deal done.

West Ham currently have Michail Antonio and Danny Ings as their striking options. Antonio has been quite poor in recent months, and the 33-year-old has been linked with the move to Saudi Arabia. It is high time West Ham look to bring in an upgrade on the player. They have recently shown interest in strikers like Serhou Guirassy.

As far as Ings is concerned, he is a proven Premier League striker. But his fitness concerns mean that the Hammers will have to find an alternative to him soon. Akor Adams could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for them.

The Nigerian striker is still only 23, and he is likely to improve with coaching and experience. There is no doubt that the Montpellier has the physicality to succeed in English football, and it remains to be seen whether West Ham can convince the Ligue 1 outfit to sell the player.

The striker has a contract with Montpellier until the summer of 2027, and the Ligue 1 club could easily demand a premium for him. They are under no pressure to sell him right now.

West Ham are now competing in the UEFA Europa League, and they will want to secure European qualification for next season as well. They must look to plug the gaps in their squad during the January transfer window to finish the season strongly.

Adams will be attracted to the idea of playing in the Premier League, and West Ham will be a major step up for him. They managed to win the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, and the striker will want to win trophies with a move to the London club this season.
