Manchester United are reportedly interested in making a move to bring €40 million-rated AC Milan and England centre-back Fikayo Tomori back to the Premier League in the near future.
According to MilanWeb, Manchester United are keeping tabs on AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori after his impressive performances for the Serie A giants, and their interest could become increasingly stronger in the coming months.
Tomori swapped Chelsea for Milan in 2021 and has enjoyed a sensational few years in Serie A. He has played 127 times for the Milanese giants, winning the league title in 2021/22 and helping to steer the Rossoneri to the semi-final of last season’s Champions League.
His fine form in Italy has not helped the five-time capped England international become a regular starter for the Three Lions, with Gareth Southgate controversially preferring Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.
The 25-year-old would have caught Southgate’s eye at St. James’ Park on Wednesday night, though, as Milan dumped Newcastle United out of Europe, helping the Italian outfit secure a 2-1 comeback win in the Champions League group stage.
Tomori produced a sensational goal-saving tackle to deny Miguel Almiron a clear tap-in during the first half, before goals from Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze sealed a Europa League play-off ticket for Milan.
If reports from Italy are to be believed, the Cobham Academy graduate could make a more permanent return to English soil if United’s early interest becomes concrete.
Per Milan Live, the Red Devils are keen to bring the 25-year-old back to the Premier League. Milan are understandably optimistic about retaining the England international, but it is claimed that Tomori’s time in Italy “could come to an abrupt and rather unexpected end” in 2024.
There are no plans at the San Siro to let Tomori leave midway through the season, but a summer move is a serious possibility, with the Italian club forced to raise funds at the end of the season to fund upgrades for Stefano Pioli’s side.
Milan are said to demand at least €40 million to part ways with Tomori, who is under contract at the San Siro until 2027. The valuation is seen as “not so crazy” in comparison to other deals involving the Red Devils.
United are understood to be “pressing” to complete the Englishman’s signing and “could make their move in the near future” amid uncertainty surrounding Raphael Varane’s future after falling out of favour with manager Erik ten Hag, who has reinstated Harry Maguire as his first-choice right-sided centre-back lately. Tomori fits the bill as a long-term replacement to partner Lisandro Martinez once he returns from his lengthy injury problems.
