Mauricio Pochettino might push Chelsea to sign Federico Valverde, although Real Madrid or the player will likely snub approaches.
According to Defensa Central, Mauricio Pochettino is pushing Chelsea to sign Federico Valverde at the earliest. The 25-year-old La Liga star only signed a long-term contract until 2029 back in November, which makes any transfer away from the Santiago Bernabeu improbable.
There are rarely a scenario where a player willingly asks to leave Real Madrid unless the club decides to sell that said star. Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria, and Casemiro are recent examples of the club agreeing to cash on those stars, but otherwise, no professional footballer seeks a move away.
That may remain the case with Federico Valverde, with suggestions that Real Madrid will not stand in his way if he desires a switch to another team. Even if the 25-year-old La Liga star wanted to join a Premier League side, it would take a mammoth bid from suitors, as the Uruguayan only signed a new long-term deal until 2029 with a humungous release clause.
In any case, Valverde has no interest in leaving the Bernabeu in the foreseeable future, while Real Madrid considers him a vital part of their immediate future. Yet, the report suggests Chelsea are adamant about signing the 25-year-old La Liga star, with Mauricio Pochettino reportedly pushing for the transfer.
Pochettino recently made a transfer plea to the club after their recent loss to Everton. Some reports from earlier pointed at a possible part-exchange deal involving Reece James going to Real Madrid. However, the Spanish giants have no interest in entertaining offers for the Uruguayan, irrespective of what a team like Chelsea might offer in exchange.
Moreover, there are question marks on whether Chelsea needs a new player in the Uruguayan’s mould. The club only spent close to £275 million on three new midfielders in six months, with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez costing well over £100 million each.
They might need a new goalkeeper and a striker to lead their line, but a midfielder may not seem necessary in January. While signing someone of Valverde’s ilk might appeal to Pochettino or any other Premier League manager, there’s simply no chance of prising the 25-year-old away from Real Madrid as things stand.
