Turkish giants Galatasaray are keen on having 23-year-old Manchester City centre-back Sergio Gomez in their ranks.
According to A Haber via SportWitness, Galatasaray want to bolster their defence in the upcoming winter transfer window and they have their eye set on Sergio Gomez. The 23-year-old centre-back hasn’t had the best of times since joining Manchester City and he is open to a move away from the club.
Gomez was a part of the Barcelona youth ranks back in the day but things didn’t work out for him at the Spanish club. He eventually had some success at the Belgian club RSC Anderlecht before joining Manchester City in the summer of 2022.
In his debut season under Pep Guardiola, the 23-year-old featured in a total of 24 matches but he could only get 971 minutes of footballing action. Things were expected to get better in the second season but nothing much has changed.
Gomez is way down the pecking order at the club and has only been involved in six matches so far. In total, he has racked up just 162 minutes. The former Spanish youth international is not happy with his current situation at the club and he is ready to part ways with the treble winners in search of regular minutes.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray are keen on having him in their ranks. The Turkish outfit wants to further bolster their squad in the winter. They want to win the Europa League and their manager Okan Buruk has requested the board to make more signings.
The board are ready to back the manager and they have started making moves. Galatasaray want to bolster their defence in particular and they have their eyes set on Gomez. They want to sign him on a loan deal until the summer of 2025.
The Turkish giants feel he could bolster their defence and his ability to feature as a left-back as well as left-midfielder could be of great use to them. While Galatasaray are quite keen on having him in their ranks and even the player is open to a move away from City, it will be interesting to see if they are ready to loan him out for an 18-month-long period.
