Former Chelsea forward Timo Werner does not want to leave RB Leipzig in January, handing Manchester United a blow in his chase.
According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, RB Leipzig and Timo Werner are working together to ensure he enjoys a successful second stint at the Bundesliga club. The 27-year-old is a target for Manchester United. But the former Chelsea forward does not want to leave Leipzig in the January transfer window.
Timo Werner and a Rollercoaster Return to RB Leipzig
Timo Werner has blown hot and cold since rejoining RB Leipzig from Chelsea last year. The German international had a decent second debut season with the Bundesliga club. But his fortunes have plummeted this term, with game time coming at a premium and goals even more so.
The 27-year-old has managed only 370 minutes of game time thus far this season. In addition, Werner has an abysmal record of two goals and one assist in 13 outings across all competitions. The former Chelsea attacker’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several clubs.
Recent reports have linked the RB Leipzig forward with many well-known mid-table Premier League clubs. Some outlets even suggested that Real Madrid might launch the offensive for the former Chelsea man. Meanwhile, Werner recently emerged as the subject of interest from Manchester United.
Manchester United Calling?
Manchester United’s interest in the misfiring Werner is surprising, considering the struggles of their offensive unit. Adding Werner to an attack that has not produced many goals this season will only bolster the issues at Old Trafford. So, it is unclear if the 27-year-old will be a solution for Manchester United.
But the Red Devils will not sign the RB Leipzig forward, who wants to remain at the Red Bull Arena beyond the January transfer window. The Bundesliga giants have had conversations with the German international over his situation. They want the former Chelsea forward to succeed at the club.
So, Werner will unlikely leave RB Leipzig until the end of the 2023/24 season. As for Manchester United, the Red Devils must look elsewhere to bolster their stuttering offensive unit after the snub from the ex-Chelsea attacker.
