Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

A report from Football Insider has claimed that a January move for Marc Guehi is “impossible”. The 23-year-old England international, a target for Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, will stay add Crystal Palace for the remainder of the campaign.

Manchester United, Tottenham Chasing Marc Guehi

The defender is valued at £60 million, and Manchester United are unwilling to pay that kind of money for him. They are reportedly willing to shell out £45 million for the 23-year-old defender. Tottenham are unlikely to be able to afford him at £60 million either, meaning Crystal Palace will have to be more reasonable with their demands.

It is no secret that the two clubs need to bring in defensive reinforcements, and the Crystal Palace defender was a target. He has established himself as one of the finest young defenders in the Premier League and is good enough to start for every club in the English top flight.

The 23-year-old will want to compete at a high level, and joining clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham will be an attractive option for him. The 23-year-old has been linked with the return to his former club Chelsea as well. It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.

Although the reported £60 million asking price seems like a premium, he could be the mainstay of the Manchester United and Tottenham defences for the next decade. Guehi has all the attributes to develop into a top-class central defender, and he could prove to be an upgrade on players like Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Eric Dier.

But it seems that any transfer might have to wait until the summer window, and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United and Tottenham retain their interest in the player until then.

Both clubs need a defender in January, and waiting until the summer transfer window to sign one could prove to be a poor decision. They are going through a rough patch right now and they need the right signings in order to turn things around. They will be desperate to secure Champions League qualification and they need quality players at their disposal.
