Jadon Sancho reportedly wants to stay in Europe when he leaves Manchester United, but his wages could scupper a move.
According to Ben Jacobs via Give Me Sport, Jadon Sancho would like to stay in Europe and continue his football here if he were to leave in January. The Manchester United outcast’s £250,000-a-week wages could fall in the way of joining another club as he must agree to a compromise to seek a move away.
Manchester United and High Wages
Manchester United operate on a different level than most teams in England and Europe. That includes handing out massive contracts to players, which has become a problem in the past when the time comes to move them out.
They have faced trouble moving out players like Anthony Martial for that very reason, and now they find themselves in a similar situation with Jadon Sancho. The Manchester United outcast’s £250,000-a-week wages are a big issue for suitors keen to take him on board, despite the Red Devils being open to offers.
What Next for Jadon Sancho?
Juventus had been interested for some time now. But the chances of them pulling out of the race if Manchester United and Sancho do not compromise are high. There were also reports of the winger wanting a return to their former side, Borussia Dortmund. But that may appear out of order considering the financial commitment needed to sign the Manchester United outcast.
Manchester United reportedly want £50 million to sell the unwanted winger. But as Ben Jacobs alluded earlier, there are doubts whether they might get that much. Now, the journalist has claimed Sancho wants to keep playing in Europe, which may have stemmed from the idea of moving to Saudi Arabia.
Jacobs said, “The player wants to stay in Europe, which helps those suitors in both Germany and Italy, whereas Saudi Arabia would be a better deal for Manchester United because they would get a healthy fee. In addition to that, the payment terms would be preferable, so it may allow them to move in the market. That’s the balance in all of this.”
“Manchester United are almost waiting to see who actually comes forward with a credible bid. They may have to, therefore, delay a little bit. At the same time, suitors like Juventus are hoping to pre-plan and, obviously, try to get players earlier within the window. There’s a real chance, when you add the fact that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is coming in, and it may be a fresh start, in many ways.”
Saudi Arabian clubs reportedly knocked on Manchester United’s doors late in the summer. At that point, the Red Devils quoted them a fee of £50 million or more, and now they are sticking to their demands ahead of January.
Sancho must play regularly to resurrect his career and show the world his quality. But that does not appear possible at Manchester United. Hence, to leave his current side and join another, he must take a hefty pay cut and devise a viable compromise.
