Newcastle United are reportedly considering signing out-of-favour 25-year-old Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Aaron Ramsdale has struggled for regular game time at Arsenal, and it remains to be seen whether Newcastle United can get a deal done for him. Nick Pope has picked up an injury, and he is set to be sidelined for several weeks.

Dean Jones revealed on GMS, “I don’t totally rule out Ramsdale and I think a lot of people would disagree and say that Pope is probably better than Ramsdale, but all I can do is go on information I’ve been given and that’s that Ramsdale is somebody that Newcastle will be interested in further down the line.”

“I don’t think it will be happening in January and I don’t think Ramsdale should be putting himself in a situation where he’s trying to go into Newcastle and push Pope out at the number one spot and then land himself with pretty much the same spot as he’s in now at Arsenal. But it is interesting that Pope is suddenly being talked about in this way, because he hasn’t really been questioned up to this point.”

Newcastle might need to bring in a quality goalkeeper, and the 25-year-old Arsenal star could prove to be a superb acquisition. He is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the league, and he helped Arsenal challenge for the title last season.

Ramsdale needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and a move to Newcastle would be ideal for him. If Arsenal are unwilling to sell the player permanently, a loan move could be ideal for all parties as well.

Having a player of his quality on loan for the remainder of the campaign would certainly benefit Newcastle and help them cope with the loss of Nick Pope. The Magpies will push for Champions League qualification this season, and they need to plug the gaps in their squad to finish the season strongly.

Apart from a quality goalkeeper, they should look to invest in a winger and a quality defensive midfielder. Meanwhile, the Arsenal man will be desperate to play regularly, and the opportunity to join Newcastle could be an attractive option for him. They have a talented squad and an ambitious project. If he is promised regular first-team action, Ramsdale is likely to be attracted to the idea of playing for the Magpies.

Arsenal signed David Raya this past summer, and the Spaniard has been the undisputed starter for Mikel Arteta. Ramsdale is likely to consider his future at the North London club if there are concrete proposals on the table ahead of the January transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether the Magpies can convince their Premier League rivals to sell the 25-year-old in the coming weeks. The English goalkeeper is well-settled in the Premier League and should be able to make an immediate impact at Newcastle if he joins the club.
