Manchester United are keen on Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel as the Italian side could demand €35 million for the 29-year-old Serie A star.
According to Calcio Mercato, Ivan Provedel emerged as a Manchester United target for next summer. The report strongly suggests the Red Devils as a suitor but states Lazio would demand at least €35 million for the keeper to make a huge financial gain from the sale.
Quite why Manchester United need another goalkeeper is beyond anyone, as after a long time, Erik Ten Hag appears to have a settled combination between the sticks. After considering many names during the summer and the protracted saga with former keeper David De Gea, the Red Devils may have finally made a huge call on the position.
Andre Onana arrived from Inter Milan in a deal worth more than €50 million and has established himself as the undisputed No.1. The Cameroonian’s journey has not been smooth by any means, as the former Ajax star came in for massive criticisms for some of his displays.
He has since settled himself and currently holds the most clean sheets among all keepers in the Premier League. Fellow summer arrival Altay Biyandir hasn’t been given ample game time, so the Turkish international might move away in the future for better opportunities.
Some reports linked Manchester United with Diogo Costa as a possible replacement for Onana when the Cameroonian underperformed. Those stories have disappeared but could re-emerge if the stopper puts in a string of terrible performances again.
Unless Biyandir wants to leave the club, there’s no need for Ten Hag to consider a new goalkeeper. The Dutch manager has plenty of other areas to focus on, with the midfield and defence still lacking in players required to raise Manchester United’s quality.
Yet, the report links 29-year-old Serie A goalkeeper Ivan Provedel to Manchester United, claiming the Lazio star could move there in the summer. They also insist upon a €35 million asking price set by the Rome club for their stopper.
Lazio signed Provedel for €2 million, and if they manage to sell him for €35 million or more, it would represent a massive financial gain. The Italian side struggled with finances and could sell some of their stars to balance the books.
By all means, the 29-year-old Serie A goalkeeper remains one of Maurizio Sarri’s key men in the team, and replacing him would appear like a big task. In any case, if they are to get an offer close to the valuation, then a sale might materialise.
As for Manchester United’s reported interest, there might not be anything here, as Ten Hag seems content with his present options. Even if Provedel is seen as a replacement for Biyandir, does he think he can oust Onana from his spot?
