Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have no plans of parting ways with their 23-year-old Brazilian winger Antony.
According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United are all set to offer Antony a key role in their first team in the upcoming months. While reports have linked the 23-year-old with a move away from the club, Erik ten Hag still has faith in the Brazilian.
After an impressive stint at Ajax, Antony joined Manchester United in a big-money move in the summer of 2022. But, things haven’t gone according to plan as the 23-year-old has failed to live up to the expectations.
Last season, he featured in 44 matches and could only manage to contribute towards 11 goals. He might not have lit up the world but it was still a decent first season for the Brazil international. Things were expected to improve in the ongoing season.
But, it seems to have further deteriorated, the 23-year-old has featured in a total of 12 matches this season. Six of those appearances have been starts in the Premier League. He has been on the pitch for 650 minutes but he hasn’t even registered a goal or an assist so far.
His poor form has resulted in a lot of criticism and Antony has been linked with a move away from the club in the winter transfer window. There are a few clubs keen on having him in their ranks. But, according to the report, United have no intentions of parting ways with the 23-year-old.
Manager Erik ten Hag is a huge admirer of the Brazil international. He has worked with him during his time at Ajax and has full trust in him. The Dutch manager believes Antony can turn things around and he has the potential of being a Premier League star.
As a result, he is all set to offer him a more important role at the club ahead of the January transfer window. The 23-year-old is all set to be an important first-team player in the upcoming weeks. He has been named in the starting XI for 50% of United’s games so far and that number is all set to increase as the festive schedule gets underway.
