La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old Brazilian international Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Gabriel Jesus is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish giants were keen on signing the 26-year-old Arsenal mainstay before he moved to the Emirates from Manchester City. And they have reignited their interest in him ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window.
Gabriel Jesus has endured a topsy-turvy ride since arriving in England nearly seven years ago. The Brazilian international was a highly-rated striker during his days with Palmeiras but has not been prolific in the Premier League. However, that did not stop Arsenal from splashing out over €50 million to land him ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Jesus hit the ground running at Arsenal and enjoyed a solid start to the 2022/23 campaign. But he has continued his unproductive ways, not scoring goals consistently. That has also been the case this term, with the 26-year-old managing only four goals and one assist in 11 appearances thus far.
Jesus has recently exclaimed that scoring goals is not his “strong point”, inviting criticism from fans and pundits. But despite his obvious shortcomings, the former Manchester City striker remains popular among prospective suitors. Meanwhile, his market value has soared to €75 million. In addition, he is attracting interest from Real Madrid.
Real Madrid had shown interest in Jesus before he joined Arsenal, with Carlo Ancelotti being his admirer. But a move did not materialise, with the Gunners prising him away from Manchester City instead. However, Real Madrid’s interest in the 26-year-old has not waned, even though he is not prolific in the final third.
Real Madrid did not sign a replacement for Karim Benzema when the Frenchman joined Al-Ittihad this past summer. So, it behoves them to invest in a striker, even if he is not clinical and prolific. In addition, with Kylian Mbappe reportedly no longer featuring on their radar, the Merengues need to identify alternatives.

Gabriel Jesus has thus emerged as a target for Real Madrid. But signing the 26-year-old Arsenal mainstay will be a tall order, considering his importance in Mikel Arteta’s plans. So, it will be interesting to see if a move materialises next year.
