Newcastle United could move for Goncalo Inacio in January

Newcastle United could move for Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio in January, as they must pay his €60 million release clause.

According to Mais Futebol, Newcastle United could decide on moving for Goncalo Inacio in January. The now-established Portugal international has plenty of suitors from the Premier League, but the Magpies could steal the march by paying his entire 60 million release clause.

Goncalo Inacio is no stranger to Premier League links, with several high-profile teams strongly chasing his signature. The €60 million-rated ace from Sporting CP has a promising future ahead, and his development could accelerate with a move in January.

Sporting are not keen to sell him in January, but they have no say if any club decides to pay his release clause. For many clubs, the money is tight around the next window, but they can find a way to make some transfers happen.

In Inacio’s case, Manchester United and Liverpool have shown an interest, but now Newcastle United are joining in the hunt. Eddie Howe considers signing a centre-back his utmost priority in January, but will mind the costs.

The €60 million-rated ace from Sporting is one of the names on Howe’s list, featuring the likes of Andreas Christensen, Jarrad Brantwaite and another Sporting CP star, Ousmane Diomande. Yet, the prospect of signing Inacio will appeal to the Magpies boss.

Newcastle United need more centre-backs heading into a crucial period of the season. The injuries to Sven Botman and Dan Burn have hit them hard at the back, with both players capable of playing in the central positions.

For now, Howe continues to put his faith in Jamal Lascelles and Fabian Schar but will need reinforcements in January to strengthen the position. To sign Inacio, Newcastle United must pay his entire €60 million release clause; this is where they can have the upper hand in the chase.

Inacio is reportedly open to a Premier League move, but whether he is open to joining the Magpies remains the question. The likes of Manchester United and Liverpool have held long-standing interest, particularly the latter, as Jurgen Klopp seeks a left-footed centre-back in his squad.

For the Magpies, signing Inacio will strengthen their backline, but signing another left-footed star will create some complications, considering Sven Botman is their undisputed starter. As things stand, there’s no bid so far, but things could change as we near the opening of the January window.
