Monaco will demand at least €30 million for Youssouf Fofana as Manchester United are one of the sides keen on the midfielder.
According to Tutto Juve, Manchester United must fork out at least €30 million for midfield target Youssouf Fofana in January. The 24-year-old French midfielder will enter the last 18 months of his deal with Monaco in the next window, with many other clubs also keeping close tabs on his situation.
During the summer, many clubs kept close tabs on Youssouf Fofana’s situation. The midfielder has been an impressive presence at Monaco since moving from Strasbourg in 2020 and now also features for the French national team with decent regularity.
Fofana is a midfield powerhouse with abilities to screen the defence and play a somewhat box-to-box role. At Monaco, he excelled in the central part, which had attracted many clubs during the summer. For various reasons, no move materialised, with the 24-year-old French midfielder suggesting he had offers to leave but deemed them inferior over a stay with his current clubs.
For instance, Fulham were one of the sides keen, but Fofana did not feel moving there would have upgraded his career. Hence, there’s every chance he could consider an offer from a bigger club than Monaco, and plenty of them circling.
Juventus could look at the 24-year-old French midfielder as they look for a new player in that position. Similarly, Paris Saint-Germain are also linked with a move for Fofana. Still, the big opportunity might come from the Premier League, with some previous reports suggesting Arsenal and Manchester United were keen.
The Gunners could still look at him as an alternative to some of their January midfield targets, but his profile does not scream like an immediate necessity for Mikel Arteta. That factor alone could leave the door open for Manchester United to make their move, with Erik ten Hag also searching for a central midfield powerhouse.
Fofana’s profile would suit Manchester United, as they want to add someone for the long term. Some of their midfielders have underperformed this season alone, leading to speculation that Casemiro could depart the club and that they will not buy out Sofyan Amrabat after his loan ends.
Both those stars have yet to perform to their required levels, which opens up space in midfield for a new player to come in. Manchester United must pay €30 million to sign Fofana, who will have 18 months left on his Monaco deal when the January window opens.
Many other sides will look at signing the Frenchman at that price, which will pressure Manchester United to act fast in the market. Fofana, 24, has a long-term future, and with his performances, he has proved his worth as he awaits his next career move to a bigger club.
