Newcastle United have been linked with a move for 26-year-old Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves ahead of the January transfer window.

A report from 90min has claimed that Ruben Neves is ready to move back to the Premier League in January. But there could be resistance from other Premier League teams who are hoping to vote on a temporary ban when it comes to transfers between associated clubs.

Newcastle United might not be allowed to loan players from Al-Hilal, and three other Saudi Pro League clubs because of the association with their owners. Meanwhile, the Portuguese international, who moved to Saudi Arabia in a £47 million deal, is also a target for Arsenal.

Despite that, the Premier League side are not ready to give up on the Portuguese international midfielder just yet. It remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done. Neves was a quality Premier League midfielder during his time with Wolves, and he would certainly help Newcastle improve.

The Magpies need to sign a quality central midfielder after the suspension of Sandro Tonali. The 23-year-old Italian international was recently handed a 10-month ban for his involvement in an illegal betting scandal.

It will be interesting to see if Newcastle can bring in the right replacements. They have had a mixed start to the campaign so far and will need to improve if they want to secure Champions League qualification for the next season. Someone like Neves would be a superb addition. He knows the league well and he could make an immediate impact at Newcastle.

The opportunity to showcase his qualities in the Premier League and the Champions League with Newcastle will be an attractive proposition for the player as well. So, it is no surprise that he is keen on a return. Signing a player of his quality on loan would prove to be a wise investment. Newcastle will be able to invest in the other areas of their squad as well.

Neves joined Al-Hilal during the summer transfer window for a fee of around £47 million, and he has been a key player for them. Even if Newcastle manage to convince the Premier League to let the move go through, they will have to agree on a deal with the Saudi pro league outfit as well.

Meanwhile, the player has been linked with a move to Arsenal as well. The Gunners need to add more depth and quality to their midfield, especially, if Thomas Partey moves on and the 26-year-old would be a superb addition.
