Newcastle United are leading the race for the signatures of the 26-year-old Portuguese international Ruben Neves.

According to Ben Jacobs via GIVEMESPORT, Newcastle United are keen on having Ruben Neves in their ranks and they are currently leading the race for his signatures. The Magpies want to reinforce their midfield in the winter window following the ban of Sandro Tonali and the 26-year-old is their priority target.

After an impressive spell at Wolves, Neves joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal ahead of the ongoing season. The Saudi Pro League club paid £47 million to sign him and are currently paying him a reported wage of £410,000 a week.

Since making the move to the Middle East, he has featured in a total of 17 matches and has even contributed towards three goals. While his performances on the pitch have been good, reports have linked him with a move back to the Premier League.

He was their marquee signing of the summer and had become an integral part of their first team within a few months of joining them. But, with him unavailable for the remainder of the season, Eddie Howe wants reinforcement and Ruben Neves is a priority target for the Magpies.

And, according to Jacobs, Newcastle are front runners for the services of the 26-year-old. Both Al-Hilal and Newcastle are owned by PIF and a loan move in the winter transfer window won’t take much. While the Magpies are leading the race to sign him, Arsenal are also interested in his services.

Mikel Arteta wants to add a new midfielder to the mix in order to ensure he has enough depth and quality to challenge for major titles in the ongoing season. The Gunners have been interested in Neves for quite a few years now.

They wanted to sign him in the winter of 2022 but couldn’t land him at the club. The north London club still remain interested in his services and could push for him in the winter. But they are behind Newcastle in the race.

However, with Premier League clubs all set to vote on whether to fast-track a ban on loan moves between associated clubs, things could soon take a turn. While the Gunners are currently not in talks for the services of Neves, they could push for him.
