Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has been linked with a move to the German club Bayern Munich.

A report from Football Insider claims that Bayern Munich are keen on signing the 29 year-old Tottenham defender and the player is seriously interested in a move to the Bundesliga. The England international has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham and he needs to leave the club in order to play more often.

A move to Germany could be ideal for him at this stage of his career. He is versatile enough to operate as a central defender, a fullback as well as a defensive midfielder. He could be an important player for Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel. The German club need to add more quality and depth to the side and the 29-year-old would be the ideal acquisition.

He is in the final year of his contract and he will be able to secure a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January. He could join the German club on a free transfer at the end of the season. His acquisition could prove to be a major bargain for Bayern Munich if they can get the deal done.

The player will probably seek gametime assurances before moving to Germany and it remains to be seen whether Bayern Munich are prepared to provide him with the necessary assurances. The 29-year-old has proven himself in the Premier League and there is no doubt that he is good enough to succeed in the German league as well.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are already lacking in depth in the defensive department and they will need to bring a quality central defender before letting the 29-year-old leave the club. Losing him on a free transfer would certainly be a setback for the English club and they should look to cash in on him for a nominal price in January. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

The opportunity to join the German club could be hard to turn down for the 29-year-old defender. He will want to compete for major trophies and Bayern Munich could certainly provide him with the platform to win trophies this season. The German outfit recently signed Harry Kane from Tottenham and it remains to be seen whether they can get a deal for Dier across the line now.
