La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old Colombian winger Luis Diaz from Liverpool.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Luis Diaz is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a wide attacker ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window. The 26-year-old Liverpool attacker has thus emerged as a viable target.
Luis Diaz has been a pivotal figure for Liverpool since arriving at Anfield from FC Porto in January 2022. The Merseyside club had shelled out €47 million to land the Colombian international, who has proven worthy of the investment. And apart from a few fitness issues, he has made his mark with top-notch performances in the final third.
The 26-year-old has had a solid 2023/24 season despite a few fitness issues and off-field distractions. Diaz has managed four goals and one assist in 14 appearances thus far this term for Liverpool. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Barcelona.
Interestingly, Barcelona had shown interest in Diaz before he joined Liverpool. But the Catalan giants were in no position to afford to pay anything close to €47 million to secure his services, especially midway through the season. But they remain keen on signing the player following his exploits with Liverpool.
Barcelona even considered pursuing Diaz’s signature ahead of the 2023 summer transfer window. But a move never materialised, with Liverpool unwilling to part ways with him. That stance might not have changed, considering the 26-year-old Colombian winger’s importance in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
The Catalan club’s interest in Diaz is hardly surprising, considering Raphinha and Ferran Torres face an uncertain future at Camp Nou. Both players have attracted the interest of Premier League bigwigs. So, it behoves Barcelona to invest in a wide attacker heading into the 2024 summer transfer window. Diaz is thus a viable target for Barcelona.
But Barcelona’s iffy financial situation means affordability will again be a sticking point for them. Liverpool will likely demand more than €47 million if they consider selling the 26-year-old. But it seems unlikely they will entertain the idea of parting ways with the Colombian international.
