Saudi Pro League clubs are keen on having 31-year-old Manchester United defensive midfielder Casemiro in their ranks.
According to a report by 90min, Saudi Pro League are interested in Casemiro, and they want to acquire his services in 2024. The SPL signed numerous superstars from Europe during the summer, and they are looking to continue in similar fashion over the new few transfer windows as they look to build a competitive league with global stars.
Casemiro made a name for himself while playing for Real Madrid. He was a part of the famous midfield trio alongside Toni Kroos and Luka Modric that helped Los Blancos win the Champions League three times in a row. After winning every major trophy and dominating Europe with Real Madrid, the Brazil international decided to take on a new challenge and joined Manchester United in the summer of 2022.
The Red Devils paid a total of £70 million (£60 million plus an additional £10 million) for his services. And, they made him one of the highest-paid players at the club with a weekly wage of around £300,000 per week.
He was brought to the club when Erik ten Hag had just taken over and things were not really going according to plan. The 31-year-old had an instant impact and he played a huge role throughout the 2022/23 season. Casemiro helped United finish in the top four and also win the Carabao Cup.
But, a lot has changed in his second season. The 31-year-old has not been able to produce similar performances, and he has been criticised by fans as well as pundits. While he still has quite a few years left on his deal with the Red Devils, they have started thinking about recouping a large chunk of what they had invested to bring him to the club amid interest from the Saudi Pro League.
The SPL have quite a few superstars in their ranks as the PIF have already signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Karim Benzema. And, they are now looking to bring a few more stars. Casemiro is one of their targets, and they could even make a move for his services in the winter transfer window.
Given the Brazilian’s current form, Manchester United’s poor start to the season, and their Financial Fair Play concerns, they could cash in on the 31-year-old in the winter. Casemiro’s departure could help them reinvest a fraction into improving their squad.
