Serie A giants AS Roma will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Chelsea utility man Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window.
According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Trevoh Chalobah is the subject of interest from AS Roma. The Serie A giants are in the market for a centre-back heading into the January transfer window. And they have set their sights on the 24-year-old Chelsea utility man.
Trevoh Chalobah has endured a rollercoaster ride since breaking into the first-team squad at Chelsea. The Freetown native had to bide his time after reaching the senior stage following his progress through the ranks. Chelsea sent him on loan to Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and FC Lorient before he established his foothold in the senior squad.
The 24-year-old broke into the first team in the 2020/21 season, with Thomas Tuchel handing him regular game time. But Chalobah’s stock has fallen since Tuchel’s departure from Stamford Bridge. He was in and out of the starting lineup last term and does not feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at the West London club.
Chalobah has yet to turn out for Chelsea since the Argentine arrived ahead of the 2023/24 season due to a hamstring injury. But he might not feature much once he is fit and available. Meanwhile, Chelsea will likely look to sell the 24-year-old utility man in the January transfer window. But he has no shortage of suitors, with AS Roma joining the race to sign him.
AS Roma will scour the market for a centre-back ahead of the January transfer window. The Serie A giants are in a spot of bother due to Chris Smalling’s fitness situation. In addition, the Englishman is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the final phase of his career. So, it behoves AS Roma to invest in a centre-back this winter.
Chalobah has thus emerged as a viable target for the Giallorossi, who can find good utility for him. The Chelsea defender can also play as a right-back and a holding midfielder. Meanwhile, the report claims that he is the ‘first’ target for the Serie A giants.

But AS Roma will face stiff competition from several European bigwigs in the race to sign the 24-year-old Chelsea utility man. Recent reports have also linked him with Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund, among others. So, it will be interesting to see if AS Roma can land him this winter.
