Manchester United and Aston Villa could reportedly sign Brondby winger Nicolai Vallys for a cut-price fee of around €6 million in the upcoming January transfer window.
According to Ekstra Bladet, as cited and translated by Sport Witness, Manchester United and Aston Villa are among the main admirers of Danish talent Nicolai Vallys, who could be available for a cut-price deal in the January transfer window.
With a contract that runs until 2026, the Denmark international was valued at €10 million in the last summer transfer window. But the report mentions Brondby will have to “adjust the price tag” to facilitate a move away.
Although the player is regarded as “one of the Superliga’s absolute best players,” Brondby sporting director Carsten V. Jensen should not expect more than €6 million for Vallys given his age profile and the fact that experienced stars from the Danish league are rarely sold for top dollar, per Ekstra Bladet.
This comes after the same outlet reported earlier this week that Premier League sides Manchester United and Aston Villa are among a host of European clubs to have sent scouts to watch the 27-year-old, who has enjoyed a superb start to the season in the Danish Superliga by scoring seven goals and registering two assists in 13 games.
In front of Manchester United and Villa scouts on Sunday, the Copenhagen-born ace delivered a man-of-the-match performance, setting up the opener with a clever header before scoring an emphatic winner as Brondby defeated Nordsjaelland 2-1.
Naturally, a right-footed attacking midfielder who can also operate on the left wing, Vallys also recently made his international debut for Denmark in a Euro 2024 qualifier against San Marino in September. His style of play and footballing intelligence have also seen him attract interest from several clubs across the continent.
Despite splashing the cash over the summer transfer window, Manchester United continue to scour the market for potential new targets to bolster their underperforming squad. The search for a new winger could be particularly important for the Red Devils during the winter transfer window, given the crises faced by the club on multiple fronts.
Following his fallout with manager Erik ten Hag, Jadon Sancho is increasingly likely to leave the club. Although fellow winger Antony has returned to the fold following a brief hiatus due to his legal issues, the Brazilian trickster has struggled to find his best form.
If Manchester United’s performances up front do not improve by the time the January transfer window commences, a tenacious winger who is also good at creating chances like Vallys could be perfect to bolster the club’s options and put pressure on others. Not to mention, he is a very realistically affordable option in light of Erik ten Hag’s budget constraints.
It could also be a very good opportunity for someone like Aston Villa, who are currently flying high under Unai Emery and have their sights firmly set on Champions League places in the Premier League. A player of Vallys’s versatility could be a great option to have in the building should any unexpected injuries occur down the line to maintain their top-four push.
