Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Spanish midfielder Aleix Garcia from Girona in the 2024 summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Aleix Garcia is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The 26-year-old midfielder has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for fellow Catalan club Girona. But Barcelona will look to prise him away from Estadi Montilivi in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Aleix Garcia has established himself as one of the most underrated midfielders in La Liga since joining Girona. The Spaniard is currently in his second stint at Estadi Montilivi after previously spending two seasons between 2017 and 2019 on loan at the club. But he struggled to find a stable foothold in his career until completing a free transfer to Girona in July 2021.
The 26-year-old has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Catalan outfit, becoming an asset with his versatility. Garcia can reprise any role in the middle of the park and has started the new season with a tally of two goals and four assists in 11 appearances thus far. Meanwhile, the player’s progress at Estadi Montilivi has not gone unnoticed.
The Spanish midfielder has found himself on the radar of several high-profile clubs in the last few transfer windows. Barcelona considered securing Garcia’s services in a Bosman move this past summer before he signed a new contract with Girona. But the Catalan giants remain interested in signing him.
Garcia’s versatility means he can play as a holding midfielder, a box-to-box midfielder, and an attacking midfielder. So, with Oriol Romeu well into his thirties and Ilkay Gundogan also approaching the final phase of his glittering career, the Girona star has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona.
The 26-year-old Spanish midfielder is already well-settled in La Liga and should not take long to settle down at FC Barcelona. But Girona might look to resist the urge of cashing in on Garcia if the reigning La Liga champions come calling.
