Newcastle United join race to sign Marcos Leonardo

Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing 20-year-old Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo, valued at €20-25 million.

A report from UOL has claimed that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on 20-year-old Santos striker Marcos Leonardo, who has scored 21 goals this season. The Brazilian outfit want €20-25 million to part ways with him.

Marcos Leonardo is highly rated in South America, and he has a bright future ahead of him. He could prove to be a superb long-term investment for the Magpies if they can sign him. Newcastle United have been quite diligent with their transfer business since the takeover. They have invested in talented young players who have performed well for them.

Leonardo would be another shrewd investment. The 20-year-old has been linked with other English clubs as well. So, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle United can win the race for his signature.

The Magpies are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, and they have the finances to pay his asking price, which currently stands at €20-25 million. At that price, Leonardo could even prove to be a bargain in the near future.

The 20-year-old will look to continue his development and play for the biggest clubs in the world. A move to Newcastle United could be an exciting next step in his career and regular football in the Premier League could accelerate his development.

Newcastle United need to add more depth to the side in order to do well across multiple competitions. Signing another striker would be a wise decision. Alexander Isak is the only reliable striker at the club given Callum Wilson’s fitness issues.

The experienced striker can be quite unreliable in terms of availability, even though his scoring rate is second to none. So, Eddie Howe needs another striker who can share the goalscoring burden alongside Isak. Leonardo certainly fits the profile, and it remains to be seen whether Newcastle make their move to sign him in January.

Newcastle are currently competing in the UEFA Champions League, and they will aim for another top four finish this season. Quality additions in January will certainly boost their chances of doing well. Leonardo has already proven himself in South America with Santos, and he has the technical attributes to do well in England as well. Howe’s attacking approach could be a good fit for him as well.
