Neil Moxley feels Manchester City could buy back 25-year-old Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz amid interest from Arsenal.
According to Neil Moxley via GIVEMESPORT, Manchester City could push for the services of Douglas Luiz. The 25-year-old Aston Villa midfielder has taken his game to another level of late, and there is a lot of interest in his services from across Europe, with Arsenal also keen.
Douglas Luiz came through the ranks at Vasco da Gama, and his impressive form resulted in a move to Manchester City in the summer of 2017. But, things never really worked out for him at City, and he ended up joining Aston Villa in the summer of 2019.
The initial years were difficult for the 25-year-old midfielder because he was not a regular starter at the club. But, a lot has changed since Unai Emery took charge. The Brazil international is now a key figure of their first team and he is one of the first names of the team sheet.
Luiz has taken his game to another level of late, and his performances have not gone unnoticed. The 25-year-old midfielder has six goal contributions in his 10 Premier League outings in the ongoing season. He has been in sensational form, and there are quite a few clubs keen on acquiring his services.
Arsenal are one of the clubs that are keen on having him in their ranks. Mikel Arteta and their sporting director Edu Gaspar are huge admirers of the 25-year-old, and the Gunners are expected to make a move for his services in the winter transfer window.
Meanwhile, Neil Moxley feels Manchester City could look to re-sign the 25-year-old. Luiz has transformed himself into a world-class midfielder, and he could be a great fit for Pep Guardiola’s team. Manchester City’s option to buy back option might have expired, but they do have the financial power to prise him away from Villa Park.
Moxley said, “Douglas Luiz looks like he could play for any of the established top four teams in the country at the moment. I really wouldn’t be surprised if Manchester City came back and said, ‘we’ll take him back’ because I think he has now turned into a real pedigree performer.”
“You’ve got Boubacar Kamara who has learned to play in and around Luiz. He does a lot of the unseen work and provides the platform for the likes of John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey and Emiliano Buendia, who are injured at the moment. He provides them with a platform to spark Villa’s attacks.”
Meanwhile, the Gunners wanted to sign him in the summer of 2022. But they failed to strike a deal with Aston Villa. Arsenal are now looking to reignite their interest. However, it won’t be easy to acquire his services as the player is committed to the project at Villa Park. Emery’s team have no intentions of letting him leave midway through the season. So, a winter departure is unlikely.
