Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are interested in acquiring the services of the 23-year-old Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
According to a report by The Sun, Arsenal are keen on having Marc Guehi in their ranks. The 23-year-old centre-back has been doing wonders for Crystal Palace of late and he is on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Guehi came through the ranks at Chelsea. While he made it to their first team in the winter of 2020, the 23-year-old didn’t really get his share of opportunities. In the summer of 2021, he parted ways with his childhood club and joined the Eagles.
The England international has since gone from strength to strength. He has featured in a total of 93 games for Palace and even has six goal contributions to his name. Guehi has become one of the mainstays of the Eagles team and his impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
While his contract with Crystal Palace runs until the summer of 2026, he is expected to join a bigger club in 2024 given the amount of interest in him. Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with the 23-year-old.
Arsenal are also in the race for the signatures of the England international. They have a well-settled defence at this point in time. But, their manager Mikel Arteta is planning for the long term and Guehi is a part of his plans. The Spanish boss wants to incorporate the 23-year-old into his team next season.
While certain clubs could try to sign him in the winter, Palace have no plans of parting ways with the midseason. As a result, there will most likely be a bidding war in place for the former Chelsea defender during the summer of 2024.
The Gunners have proved their pulling power in the recent past when they managed to sign Declan Rice who was on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in England. And, they are ready to repeat something similar in the case of the 23-year-old Palace defender.
Meanwhile, Chelsea do have the option of matching any bid for the England international. But, if the price goes too high they might back out. Palace will most likely receive a club-record fee for the defender as the asking price will most likely be more than the £50 million that Manchester United paid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka back in the day.
