Arsenal are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of 21-year-old Sao Paulo defensive midfielder Pablo Maia.

According to a report by 90min, Arsenal are looking to sign a new defensive midfielder in the near future. They are interested in having Pablo Maia in their ranks and have been keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old for a while now.

Maia came through the ranks at Sao Paulo and made it to their first team in the winter of 2022. He has since gone from strength to strength. The 21-year-old already has over 100 appearances for the Brazilian club and has also contributed towards nine goals.

He has established himself as one of the mainstays of the team and is a rock in front of his backline. Maia has racked up 49 appearances in the 2023 season and has contributed towards six goals. He has been on the pitch for well over 3,500 minutes and his impressive shifts in the centre of the park have attracted a lot of attention.’

While the 21-year-old’s contract with the Brazilian club runs until the end of 2027, he could end up parting ways with the club in the near future. Arsenal are one of the clubs linked with the Sao Paulo midfielder. The Gunners have been on the lookout for a new defensive midfielder in the recent past.

They have been linked with numerous players, and Maia is one of the names on their list. They have been tracking him very closely and are interested in having him in their ranks. He could be an ideal replacement for Thomas Partey, who has been linked with a move away from the club.

The 30-year-old has gone down the pecking order since the arrival of Declan Rice for a club record fee. With his game time reduced, the player is considering parting ways with the club. With his contract running out in the summer of 2025, the Gunners could also look to cash in on him.

Arsenal’s sporting director Edu has put a bit more emphasis on South American talents of late. He was in Brazil keeping a close eye on some exciting young players. Everything suggests that the Gunners could soon sign a young Brazilian talent and he could be Maia.
