Real Madrid might look to launch the offensive to sign 26-year-old World Cup-winning striker Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Lautaro Martinez is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. Juni Calafat has identified the 26-year-old as the solution to lead the line for several years. But it is unclear if the World Cup-winning striker will be available for a transfer in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Lautaro Martinez has come leaps and bounds since joining Inter Milan from Racing Club in July 2018. The Argentine international spent his formative years in his homeland before arriving in Italy as a 20-year-old. Since then, he has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world and guided Inter to the Scudetto.
The 26-year-old has started the ongoing season well, amassing 12 goals and two assists in 11 appearances thus far. Meanwhile, Martinez became the club captain ahead of this term following the departure of Samir Handanovic. So, one would imagine that an exit is nowhere on the cards for the player.
Nonetheless, Martinez, who was a part of Argentina’s World Cup-winning squad remains popular in the market. Recent reports have linked him with Manchester United over a possible move in the 2024 summer transfer window. Real Madrid might also launch the offensive to secure his services in the same window.
Real Madrid chose not to sign a replacement for Karim Benzema after the Frenchman moved to Saudi Arabia. While Joselu arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu, he essentially filled the spot that Mariano Diaz vacated. So, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a striker in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Widespread reports have claimed that Kylian Mbappe is Real Madrid’s priority for the 2024 summer transfer window. But recent reports have suggested that Mbappe might sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. So, the Merengues should keep their options open, with Martinez emerging as a viable target.
The report claims that Real Madrid’s interest in the World Cup-winning striker is not concrete yet. But it will be interesting to see if the Spanish giants decide to launch the offensive for the 26-year-old in the coming months.
