Manchester United, Real Madrid vying for Alessandro Bastoni

Manchester United and Real Madrid are among the teams vying for Alessandro Bastoni, whom Inter Milan have no interest in selling.

According to Fichajes, Alessandro Bastoni could have major interest coming from Manchester United and Real Madrid next summer. Inter Milan have the protection of a long-term contract recently signed by the 24-year-old Italian international, which could let them make the big decision on his future.

There are few centre-backs in Europe of Alessandro Bastoni’s calibre. The 24-year-old Italian international has grown in stature over the last few years, tutored by two formidable Italian tacticians, Antonio Conte and Simone Inzaghi.

He has been steady with his performances, as Inter Milan fans have grown to see him put in accomplished displays every time he takes on the pitch. What has become concerning is his long-term future at the club amid the club’s growing financial troubles.

Like in the past, they could entertain offers for the 24-year-old Italian international if a massive offer comes about. The defender calmed down summer speculation by signing a new deal until 2028, which gives the San Siro outfit the power to decide his long-term future.

Despite penning that new contract, interested clubs have not backed away. In fact, there is increased interest following a stunning start to the new campaign. Chelsea and Manchester City had recent links, and now, Manchester United and Real Madrid have joined in the hunt.

Manchester United have been searching for a new centre-back since the current season began. There are a few notable names on their list, including Marc Guehi and Jean-Clair Todibo, among others. In order to sign a quality defender, they will have to spend big, especially in the case of Bastoni.

As per Transfermarkt, Bastoni’s value stands at €60 million, and Inter Milan will demand considerably more. Hence, there are only a few clubs who might afford the 24-year-old Italian international in the current climate, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are also in the market for a new centre-back, with Florentino Perez looking to add another option. Portuguese star Antonio Silva remains a target, but others in the Premier League are keen as well. They were also interested in Bastoni before the summer window, but his new contract may have put the brakes on the pursuit.

Come next summer, they might rekindle their interest and sign the 24-year-old to bolster their backline. Perez might view him as a long-term replacement for David Alaba, but they could also play together in a specific system.

As things stand, Inter Milan hold all the cards with Bastoni and will certainly hope to keep him for the long term. However, the player may have different ideas and could push to sign for one of the bigger clubs interested in his services.
