Liverpool cannot sign Goncalo Inacio for less than €60 million in January

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio, whose price tag is €60 million.

A report by A Bola via Sport Witness has claimed that Liverpool might be able to sign Goncalo Inacio in January. But they will have to pay €60 million for him.

The Reds recently scouted him as well. The defender has a €60 million release clause in his contract, and the Portuguese club are unwilling to lower his asking price. Inacio has established himself as a key player for Sporting CP and his departure will weaken the squad during the January transfer window.

It is hardly a surprise that the Portuguese outfit are looking to extract a premium for the player. Liverpool need to bring in defensive reinforcements, and the 22-year-old Portuguese international could prove to be an exceptional long-term acquisition.

He has all the attributes to develop into a world-class centre-back, and he is versatile enough to operate as a left-back as well. Liverpool need to sign a versatile defender like him, and they have been linked with Piero Hincapie as well.

Inacio is certainly good enough for the Premier League, and he could be a key player for Liverpool in the coming seasons. The Reds currently have Joe Gomez and Joel Matip as the backup options for Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

They need to add more depth to their defensive unit, especially with Matip in his twilight years. Inacio would be a solid investment for the Premier League club, and it remains to be seen whether they are ready to break the bank for him.

Liverpool failed with a club-record move to sign Moises Caicedo during the summer transfer window. So, it is fair to assume that they have the finances to get the deal done. It remains to be seen whether they submit a concrete proposal for the Portuguese defender in January.

The player has been linked with other English clubs as well. So, Liverpool should look to move swiftly in order to secure his services. The €60 million asking price might seem steep right now, but the player has the potential to justify the investment.
