Luka Modric has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid, with Manchester United mentioned as a potential destination.

Luka Modric has now rubbished links (h/t Defensa Central) with Manchester United and has insisted he is keen on staying at Real Madrid.

Responding to the recent links in a private discussion at Real Madrid, he said, “What they put in the newspapers is false, I don’t have that intention.”

Modric has been a key player for Real Madrid since joining the club from Tottenham Hotspur, and he has helped them win multiple trophies during his time at the club. There is no doubt that he is one of the best central midfielders of his generation. But he seems to have fallen down the pecking order this season.

The Croat is no spring chicken, and Real Madrid have started to plan for a future without him. The player has been linked with an exit as a result of that, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. The player is in the twilight of his career, and a move away from Real Madrid could help him play more often. But recent reports have claimed he will not push for a January exit.

Manchester United could certainly use someone like him for the short term. The Red Devils lack a quality central midfielder who can control the tempo of the game and help them retain possession. Modric is certainly one of the best in that role and he could be a useful acquisition for the Red Devils.

However, the Croatian international, who joined Real Madrid for just €35 million over a decade ago, is clearly not keen on the move. So, it remains to be seen whether Manchester United decide to try their luck and convince him to join the club.

Real Madrid have invested in a number of talented young central midfielders recently. They signed Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund this summer, and the England international has been exceptional since his move to the Spanish club. He has been scoring goals consistently and has also helped his teammates by creating goalscoring opportunities for them.

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid are prepared to cash in on Modric if Manchester United can convince him to join. The Spanish giants paid €35 million for the player when they signed him from Tottenham, and they might be able to recoup most of that if they sell him in the coming months.
