West Ham United are leading the race for the signatures of 30-year-old Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire.
According to a report by Football Insider, West Ham United are still keen on having Harry Maguire in their ranks. And, they are leading the race for the signatures of the former Manchester United skipper. David Moyes wants to add a new centre-back to his ranks in the winter transfer window and the 30-year-old England international is one of their targets.
Maguire joined Manchester United back in 2019. The Red Devils acquired his services for a reported fee of £80 million making him the most expensive defender. The England international got off to a great start at the Manchester-based club.
He managed to put in consistent performances and even became the club captain. But, over the past few seasons, things haven’t gone according to plan for the 30-year-old. He has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Erik ten Hag last summer.
The former Leicester defender is no longer a guaranteed starter and he was stripped of captaincy before the start of the 2023-24 season. With his game time at United taking a major hit, the 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club.
The England international was close to joining the Hammers in the summer but the deal ended up collapsing. However, David Moyes’ team are still interested in his services. They are looking for a world-class defender to add more depth to their back line and Moyes feels Maguire could be a great fit for the club.
They are keen on having him in their ranks and are leading the race for his signatures. But, a move in the winter transfer window seems unlikely as the player seems keen on staying at the Manchester-based club until the end of the year.
Even if there is a possibility of transfer in January, it will most likely be a loan deal with a potential option to buy. Because the Hammers can’t afford another big-money deal along with the huge wages of nearly £200,000-a-week.
