Juventus are all set to battle it out with Real Madrid and Barcelona for the services of Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen.
According to a report by Tutto Juve, Juventus are keen on having Ian Maatsen in their ranks. The 21-year-old has been doing wonders of late, and he is on the radar of the Serie A giants. But, they are not the only ones in the race, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also interested in his services.
Maatsen joined the Chelsea youth academy back in the summer of 2018 from PSV Eindhoven. He came up the ranks at the English club and was subject to multiple loan moves before being promoted to their first team ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The 21-year-old has already featured in eight matches for Chelsea in the ongoing season. While he might not be a regular starter yet, he has managed to put in some impressive shifts. And, his performances have not gone unnoticed as quite a few top clubs are keen on having him in their ranks.
Juventus are one of the clubs interested in the versatile Dutch prospect. The Serie A giants do not have much depth in the left-back position. They have struggled because of injuries to Alex Sandro and feel signing a younger full-back is a must. But, the Serie A giants are not alone in the race.
They will have to compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona. The Catalan giants have an exceptional left-sided full-back in Alejandro Balde. But they do not have a top-level cover. As a result, they feel signing Maatsen will give them the much-needed depth and allow them to rotate Balde.
Meanwhile, Los Blancos added Fran Garcia to their ranks this past summer. But, Real Madrid still feel the need for another left-back. Ferland Mendy is their first-choice left-back, but he has been struggling with injuries of late. The Merengues are thus considering offloading him in the future. As a result, signing Maatsen will surely help their cause.
The 21-year-old is a huge prospect for the future, and Chelsea will try their best to keep him at the club. But, his contract is all set to expire next summer. If the Blues fail to extend his stay in the next few months, Maatsen will be free to leave the club next summer.
