Bayern Munich are reportedly keen to open contract talks with Leroy Sane that would extend his stay at the club beyond 2025, amidst strong Liverpool interest.

According to Football Insider, Bayern Munich have opened talks with Leroy Sane over a new contract in part to ward off increasing interest from Liverpool.

The 27-year-old Germany international made the switch to Bayern Munich for £54.8 million in 2020. He has since made 144 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, netting 45 times and laying on 37 assists. He has already won seven major honours with the Bavarians, including three Bundesliga titles.

Sane is having a monster 2023/24 campaign so far at Bayern Munich. He has been the most consistent player for Bayern Munich this season, and he is arguably playing his best football in the Bavarian shirt. He scored six goals in the Bundesliga prior to the international break and once in the two UEFA Champions League games.

The German international has improved his concentration and end product on the pitch to become a complete player instead of one who just showed moments of brilliance in the past seasons.

Sane has benefitted from the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, who has found a system to get the best out of him. The player has also instantly struck up a strong partnership with Harry Kane in the final third, which has helped Die Roten to become a dangerous attack.

The next step for both parties is to negotiate a contract renewal since Sane’s deal. His existing contract at the Allianz Arena does not expire until 2025, but Bayern are thought to be keen to tie him down to fresh terms amid reported interest from elsewhere.

The likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with moves for Sane in recent weeks, while Liverpool are eyeing him as a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah, who could make a switch to Saudi Arabia next year.

Liverpool will no doubt be seeking a high transfer fee for Salah, having tied him down to a new contract until 2025. If Al-Ittihad succeed in prising him away, there will be a huge void in Klopp’s attack to fill.

A proven winner during his time at Manchester City, Sane helped his former team win eight major trophies, including two Premier League titles. He made 135 appearances for the Cityzens, scoring 39 goals and making 46 assists.

The electric winger could help bring experience and a winning mentality to the Liverpool dressing room, so it’s no surprise Klopp is keen on bringing him in. However, the Reds could be forced to realign their radars elsewhere if Bayern did manage to tie Sane down to a new deal in the near future.
