Newcastle United are ready to fork out €42 million in order to acquire the services of 30-year-old Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
According to a report by Fichajes, Newcastle United are interested in the services of Romelu Lukaku. The 30-year-old striker has been on fire since joining AS Roma on loan from Chelsea. His exceptional form in front of goal has caught the eyes of the Magpies who are willing to invest in order to land him at the club next summer.
Lukaku returned to Chelsea in the summer of 2021 in what was a big money move. After proving his mettle while playing for Inter Milan, the Belgian international decided to return to his former club. But, things didn’t go according to plan for him in London.
And, he was sent out on loan back to Inter Milan last season. While the Italian club were expected to sign him on a permanent basis, they decided against it. He was even linked with a move to Juventus. But, even that didn’t go through.
In the end, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma managed to land him at the club on a season-long loan. Since joining the Italian club, the 30-year-old has been in exceptional form. He has found the back of the net seven times in his eight outings.
Lukaku has managed to bounce back in some fashion over the past 18 months. His impressive performances throughout and his recent form have attracted a lot of attention. Newcastle United are one of the clubs that have shown interest in acquiring his services.
Meanwhile, Chelsea has made a major decision regarding the future of their striker who is currently out on loan at Roma. They have set a price tag of €42 million on the 30-year-old as they are looking to recover a part of what they had spent in signing him back in the day.
Given his recent form, the Magpies are willing to pay the €42 million needed to land him at their club. They have gone from strength to strength over the past few seasons and are currently playing in the Champions League as well. While they have assembled a quality squad, they are still in search of an ace striker and they feel Lukaku could be a great option in the short term.
But, the English club are not the only one ready to pay, even Roma are ready to prise him away from Chelsea. As a result, Newcastle United will have to battle it out with Mourinho’s men for the services of the Belgian international.
