Chelsea rival Manchester United in Lois Openda pursuit

Chelsea and Manchester United are all set to battle it out for the signatures of 23-year-old RB Leipzig forward Lois Openda.

According to a report by Fichajes, Chelsea and Manchester United would both love to have Lois Openda in their ranks. The 23-year-old RB Leipzig forward has been in sensation form over the past 18 months and he is on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Openda made a name for himself while playing in the French Ligue 1 for Lens in the 2022-23 season after joining them from Club Brugge. He had an exceptional debut season for the French club as he scored 21 goals in his 38 league outings.

Just a year after joining Lens, RB Leipzig managed to acquire his services ahead of the 2023-24 season. The 23-year-old has already hit the ground running with seven-goal contributions in ten outings. His exceptional performances haven’t gone unnoticed and there are multiple clubs keen on having him in their ranks.

While Lens are ready to cash in on the Belgian international, they are looking for €90 million. It is a high price for someone who has just burst onto the scene but the French club believes in his potential. As a result, they won’t let him leave on the cheap.

Meanwhile, United and Chelsea are two clubs ready to push for his services. The Red Devils are looking for further reinforcement in attack. They might have signed Rasmus Højlund in the summer but Erik ten Hag’s team are in desperate need of another goal-scoring source.

As a result, they are considering the option to push for his services. But, they will have to think twice before making a big investment in someone who has high potential but hasn’t proved himself at the top given their recent decisions in the transfer market.

Even Chelsea are keen on having the 23-year-old in their ranks. The Blues are quite serious about their pursuit and are looking to put forward a bid in the coming weeks. While they have been playing decent football in the new season, the London club haven’t won enough games because they haven’t scored enough goals.

Mauricio Pochettino wants to solve their goal-scoring headache as soon as possible. As a result, he is looking for a top quality striker. Openda is just 23, he will guarantee goals and also fits their project which revolves around signing young talents.
