Arsenal are leading the race to sign Manchester United target Pedro Neto having already established contact with his agent.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Arsenal and Manchester United are both keen on having Pedro Neto in their ranks in January. The Gunners have already contacted his agent Jorge Mendes over a potential transfer and are leading the race at this stage. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers want £60 million to part ways with him.
Neto joined Wolves back in 2019 from Lazio. He had a decent start to life in England. But over the past few seasons, he struggled with injuries. Last season, all he could manage was just over 1,000 minutes of football.
Despite being considered a huge prospect for the future, things were not really falling into place for Neto. But, the 23-year-old has managed to turn things around. He has got off to a great start in the 2023/24 season and has showcased to the world the kind of talent he possesses.
In his seven Premier League outings in the new season for Wolves, he has scored once and bagged four assists. The 23-year-old played an integral part in helping them win over defending champions Manchester City in their last outing.
Neto’s form and his exceptional performances in the recent past haven’t gone unnoticed. Arsenal and Manchester United are two clubs keen on having him in their ranks.
The Red Devils have signed quite a few wingers in the recent past. But those players have not had the kind of impact the fans wanted. Signing Neto could a lot of firepower to their ranks.
They have already offloaded Mason Greenwood (on loan at Getafe), Antony is facing some serious allegations and Jadon Sancho has been excluded from the first team. As a result, they do need a new winger in the winter, and Erik ten Hag wants to have Neto in his ranks.
But, Manchester United are not the only club interested in him. Even Arsenal are keen on having the 23-year-old at this disposal. Their star winger Bukayo Saka has recently picked up an injury and might not feature in the next few fixtures.
Saka has been subject to quite a few knocks in the recent past, and Mikel Arteta wants to ensure they have enough depth to cope with his absence. Arteta is a huge admirer of Neto and feels he could provide the much-needed depth and his arrival will also help them push for major titles.
The Gunners have established contact with the player’s agent. They have been in talks with Jorge Mendes as they look to figure out the conditions needed to execute a transfer in the winter window. According to the report, a minimum of £60 million will be needed to force the player out of Wolves mid-season.
While Manchester United are keen on having him in their ranks, the Gunners are better placed financially. As a result, they could end up winning the race for the signatures of the £60 million-rated 23-year-old.
