Juventus are in contact with Tottenham over the potential transfer of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in January if the midfielder’s situation stagnates.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Juventus are in contact with Tottenham over Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Danish midfielder has found himself stagnating under Ange Postecoglou, while the Serie A giants will enter the market for a midfielder to replace Paul Pogba.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was one of Tottenham’s most consistent players in an otherwise dismal club season. The north Londoners only managed an eighth-placed finish and bowed out of European football altogether for the current campaign.
In the summer, they appointed Ange Postecoglou, who has led them to a fantastic start to the Premier League campaign. Part of the Australian’s revamp of the club included a total change to the team’s midfield, of which Hojbjerg is no longer a part.
The Danish star had links to Atletico Madrid during the summer, but the two teams could not agree on favourable terms. The 28-year-old Tottenham star wants to play regularly and remains open to leaving the London side in January.
Tottenham are keen on an outright sale, and maybe that was the reason for the fallout with Atletico, who would have wanted an initial loan move. Now, Juventus are eyeing a similar deal and have remained in contact with Spurs over a potential January move.
Reports of Hojbjerg’s agent’s discussions with Juventus emerged, which indicated there had indeed been some sparks in the background. At the moment, the 28-year-old Tottenham star is the fourth choice under Postecoglou and has seen his career stagnate under the new management.
There has also been interest from AS Roma, with former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho keen to lure the midfielder to the Italian capital. However, Juventus could present a compelling case on their chase, and that could lead to the 28-year-old evaluating his options.
Manchester United are also reportedly keen to sign him, but Tottenham will likely prefer to send him abroad than to a Premier League rival. The bigger issue with Juventus is their deal structure, as they only want an initial loan with an option or obligation to go with the proposal.
Tottenham are keen to sell the Danish star and may reject the idea of a loan. However, Juventus will keep in contact with their Spurs counterparts and figure out a way that suits all parties concerned. They are desperately looking for a midfielder to replace Paul Pogba, who could face a lengthy suspension owing to a failed doping test.
As for Hojbjerg, it’s time to move on from Spurs and play in a team where he features regularly. A move to Italy could suit his style, but whether that would be Juventus or Roma remains the question.
