Real Madrid are interested in Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min

According to Fichajes, Spanish giants Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min in 2024.

The 31-year-old has developed into a world-class attacker since moving to North London from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. Since then, the South Korean has made 379 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 150 goals and assisting 80 more.

His current deal with Spurs runs until 2025 and there are murmurs that it could be extended. A faithful servant to the cause, he is a fan favourite who continues to impress irrespective of the manager in charge.

Son was handed the captain’s armband this season by Ange Postecoglou and the veteran star has risen to the challenge. With five goals in seven games this season, he is off to a bright start once again. This has caught the attention of Real Madrid who failed to replace Karim Benzema in the summer transfer window.

Bringing in a player of Son’s quality would be a boost for any team in world football including Real. However, he is unlikely to come cheap. Daniel Levy is a shrewd negotiator and Real will know that well given the amounts they paid for Luka Modric and Gareth Bale in the past.

Levy also managed to convince Bayern Munich to fork out a club-record fee for Harry Kane despite him having just under a year to go on his Tottenham contract. It is unlikely to deter Florentino Perez who is expected to sanction a move should the opportunity arise.

Moving Son on would be a major blow for Tottenham given the struggles of Richarlison upfront. The South Korean is the club’s most recognizable and consistent goalscorer, something they will need to replicate should he also exit the door.

Son has stayed loyal to Tottenham for years but it would appear that he could opt for a new challenge if the conditions are willing. Becoming the first South Korean to don the famous jersey of Real would certainly be tempting. More so, he could also have a better shot at winning trophies at the Santiago Bernabeu.
