Arsenal rival Real Madrid in Takefusa Kubo pursuit

Arsenal will compete with Real Madrid in the race to sign 22-year-old Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo, whose release clause is worth €60 million.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Takefusa Kubo is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The 22-year-old winger, whose release clause is worth €60 million, is also a target for Real Madrid. But Los Blancos can secure his services for just €30 million, while the Gunners are ready to trigger his clause.

Talefusa Kubo has finally found a stable footing as a professional footballer since joining Real Sociedad last year. The Japanese international took little time to become a regular for La Real. And he has also become a pivotal figure for his national side while being one of the best wingers in La Liga.

The 22-year-old, who spent three years at Real Madrid without establishing a foothold in the first team, has started the 2023/24 season well. Kubo has managed four goals and one assist in ten appearances thus far this term. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Recent reports have pointed to Real Madrid keeping tabs on Kubo’s progress and Real Sociedad. Los Blancos’ interest in re-signing the young winger is understandable, considering Carlo Ancelotti does not have a plethora of attackers at his disposal. With Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes being the only wingers in the first-team squad, Real Madrid should invest in a wide attacker.

The Merengues own 50 per cent of Kubo’s rights, allowing them to sign him for €30 million instead of shelling out €60 million, the value of his release clause. But Real Madrid will face stiff competition from Arsenal in the race to sign the Japanese international from La Liga club Real Sociedad.

Mikel Arteta has three top-notch wide attackers in his squad. In addition, Marquinhos is a highly-rated winger. So, it is unclear how Kubo might fit into the scheme of things, considering he cannot usurp Bukayo Saka on the right flank. Nonetheless, Arsenal will be open to coughing up €60 million to land him.

The 22-year-old might attract even more suitors in the coming months if his impressive performances continue. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal can beat Real Madrid to Kubo’s signature next year.
