Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly prepared to let go of Ivan Perisic for free during the January transfer window.
A report from SportsKe claims that Tottenham could be willing to terminate the contract of Ivan Perisic and let him move on as a free agent in January. Hajduk Split are keen on the versatilie wide man, and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done.
Perisic joined Tottenham on a free transfer under Antonio Conte, and he has been a useful player for the North London club. The Croatian international has played as a winger as well as a wing-back for the Premier League club, and he chipped in with 12 assists across all competitions last season.
His ability to slot into multiple roles and perform at a high-level made him a useful squad player for Tottenham last season. But it seems that the North London outfit are now prepared to part ways with him.
He will be a free agent at the end of the season, and Spurs are ready to tear up his contract and let him leave midway through the campaign. A return to his homeland could be ideal for Perisic at this stage of his career and he could be attracted to the idea of playing for Hajduk Split.
Tottenham already have adequate depth in the full-back departments, and Perisic will struggle for regular game time throughout the season. It makes sense for him to move on and join a club where he will get ample game time. Interestingly, Hajduk Split were also keen on signing him this past summer.
Tottenham already have players like Destiny Udogie and Ryan Sessegnon for the left-back slot. Udogie has been quite impressive in the Premier League so far, establishing himself as the first choice left back at Tottenham. Manager Ange Postecoglou will want to nurture the talented young players at his disposal instead of giving opportunities to Perisic.
So, a January exit would be ideal for all parties. Tottenham would get to save his wages, and the player will be able to return to action on a regular basis at another club. Tottenham have made an impressive start to the Premier League campaign, and they will be hoping to finish in the Champions League positions.
