Manchester United are eyeing Lautaro Martinez as a long-term option for the forward line, with Erik ten Hag keen on the Argentine.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United could target a move for Lautaro Martinez as a long-term option for their forward line. Erik ten Hag has reportedly requested the club to sign the 26-year-old World Cup winner as he looks forward to the future.
Inter Milan have successfully evaded massive interest in their star striker and captain, Lautaro Martinez, since the summer of 2021. Even before that, clubs had eyes on the 26-year-old World Cup winner but, with a contract extension signed in that year, ensured he has a deal until 2026.
Despite the three years remaining on his agreement, Martinez’s future remains in a cloud of doubt, especially after his stellar start to the domestic campaign. The 26-year-old World Cup winner also scored a decisive equaliser in Inter Milan’s Champions League opener, thus cementing his status as the club’s main man.
Chelsea had links to Martinez during the summer, with several media stories declaring the 26-year-old wanted to work with compatriot Mauricio Pochettino. Despite the Blues needing a big presence on their front line, they decided to sign only Nicolas Jackson.
Fabrizio Romano also spoke about links to other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham and Manchester United. The Red Devils were also in the market for a new No.9, and they explored some options before signing Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in a huge deal.
Despite the Dane’s presence, Erik ten Hag still has a shortage of viable options to lead the line. Martial’s future looks far away from the club and could leave in the upcoming window or next summer. Marcus Rashford doesn’t suit the No.9 position, leaving Hojlund as their only natural option.
As per the report, Ten Hag has reportedly requested the club to make a move for Martinez and bring the 26-year-old World Cup winner as a long-term option. The Dutchman believes the Argentine and Hojlund can play together in his system, and it would make for a compelling forward line.
Inter Milan are not about to let go of their striker easily, as the Argentine will have a major role to play this season. They could cash in if Manchester United make a compelling offer to the Serie A leaders’ liking. The Red Devils might look at him as well as other options if Ten Hag feels the absolute need for a new frontman, although any move will likely happen next summer rather than in January.
