Mathys Tel has reportedly emerged on the radar of Real Madrid, with the Merenges adding him to their wishlist of young strikers.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Mathys Tel is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are compiling a wishlist of young strikers who can be alternatives to Kylian Mbappe. And the 18-year-old Bayern Munich prospect has emerged as one of their targets.
Mathys Tel is a native of Sarcelles and spent most of his formative in France. He passed through the academies at JS Villiers-le-Bel, Paris FC, AS Jeunesse Aubervilliers, Montrouge FC 92, and Stade Rennais before turning professional. And the French youth international rose to prominence at Rennes before Bayern Munich came calling.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a decent debut season at Bayern Munich but was a backup option for the Bundesliga champions. And he remains the second-choice striker for Die Roten, with Harry Kane ahead of him in the pecking order. But Tel’s performance levels remain high, and he has three goals and one assist in just 121 minutes of game time.
Tel’s performances for Bayern Munich have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of high-profile clubs. One of his suitors might be Real Madrid, with Los Blancos scouring the market for a young striker.
Real Madrid will prioritise bolstering the attack in the 2024 summer transfer window. Kylian Mbappe is thus the top target for next year. But there are brewing concerns that the Frenchman will sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain instead of leaving them as a free agent. So, the Merengues are keeping their options open.
Several alternatives have thus emerged on their radar, including Evan Ferguson, Benjamin Sesko, and Antonio Nusa. Tel is also a viable target, considering his versatility. The 18-year-old Bayern Munich wonderkid can play across the frontline, unlike most of Real Madrid’s other targets. So, he can be a like-for-like alternative to Mbappe.
But Bayern Munich might not entertain any offers for the French youth international. The Bundesliga champions view him as their long-term solution in the final third. So, Real Madrid might have an uphill task securing Tel’s services in the 2024 summer transfer window.
