Erik ten Hag is keen on having 26-year-old Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong in his ranks at Manchester United.

According to a report by Fichajes, Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to sign Frenkie De Jong. While the 26-year-old midfielder has been on the radar of quite a few clubs, the Red Devils have been constantly linked with the Dutch international over the past few transfer windows.

De Jong joined Ajax back in 2015 and he made it to their first team next summer. The 26-year-old went from strength to strength at the Dutch club and was a part of the team that reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League back in the day.

After making a name for himself at Ajax, he joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019. The Catalan giants paid €85 million to the Dutch club for the midfield sensation. He has since managed to establish himself as a regular at the Spanish club and has featured in 188 matches for them.

The 26-year-old is amongst the most important players under Xavi and he would love to have him in his ranks for as long as possible. However, there is a possibility that he could leave the club next summer.

Barcelona have been in a financial crisis for a while now and they can’t really do much in the transfer window without offloading players. As a result, they could consider selling him in order to reinforce their squad.

While the Dutch international still has three years left on his deal and wants to continue at the Spanish club, they could end up selling him if they manage to recover a large part of what they paid for him.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are ready to go big for the 26-year-old next summer. The Red Devils have been linked with the former Ajax midfielder for a while now. Their manager Erik ten Hag is desperate to have De Jong in his ranks having already worked with him at the Dutch club back in the day.

Ten Hag believes the Dutch international could help their cause at Manchester United. He wants the Red Devils to land him at the club ahead of the 2024-25 season. But, it won’t be easy as De Jong has no intentions of leaving Barcelona and a potential transfer would require a huge amount of investment from the English club.
